Research Focus

Dr. Michael Matheny’s research centers on health care informatics and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to improve patient safety. He focuses on detecting risks and complications associated with medical device and medication post-market surveillance, building population health risk prediction models, and extracting critical information from clinical data to enhance Veteran care. His work spans acute kidney injury, advanced liver disease, cardiovascular devices, and other clinical outcomes.
