Research Focus

Dr. Todd Hulgan's research focuses on translational mitochondrial genomics, with a particular interest in how mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variation influences outcomes in people living with HIV. Dr. Hulgan has led National Institute of Health- and VA-funded collaborative projects in this area and has authored more than 100 scientific publications.

In addition to his HIV-related work, he has contributed to research in other areas of infectious diseases and immune function, with an emphasis on improving health outcomes for Veteran populations.
