About
Dr. Stokes Peebles is a physician-scientist whose research explores the mechanisms of lung inflammation and the development of targeted treatments for inflammatory lung diseases. With more than 25 years of continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Peebles has made significant contributions to pulmonary, allergy, and immunology research.
Leadership Experience & Service
Dr. Peebles currently serves as Associate Chief of Staff-Research at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS). He is appointed to the Advisory Council of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for a 4-year term. Previously, he served as a member of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (2008-2013) and was Chair of the Board in 2011.
Professional Focus & Achievements
Dr. Peebles' primary research interest is defining mechanisms of lung inflammation and developing treatments for inflammatory lung diseases. He has been continuously NIH funded since 1998 and his research has also been supported by VA Merit Awards since 2010. In his research career, he has published over 230 scientific papers.
Current Role & Responsibilities
Dr. Peebles joined the faculty as a physician-scientist at Vanderbilt in 1998. In addition to his research and administrative duties, he continues clinical practice in Clinical Immunology, Pulmonary, and Critical Care Medicine at TVHS and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
