Dr. John Nadeau was appointed Chief of Staff of the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) on January 22, 2017. With more than 35 years of medical experience, he has dedicated his career to advancing veteran healthcare through leadership, research, and clinical practice.

Leadership Experience & Service

In his role as Chief of Staff, Dr. Nadeau leads a broad range of clinical departments, including Dental Service, Geriatric Extended Care, Geriatric Research, Medical Service, Medical Imaging, Mental Health Care, Neurology, Pathology & Laboratory Service, Pharmacy, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Research & Development, Social Work, Surgical Service, Transplant Service, Anesthesiology, and Audiology. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Deputy Chief of Medicine at TVHS. Beyond his leadership within the VA, Dr. Nadeau is a Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve and has deployed twice during Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Battalion Force Surgeon for a Reserve Marine Battalion.

Professional Focus & Achievements

Dr. Nadeau has devoted his career to patient care, medical education, and research. He is a board-certified internist specializing in internal medicine and preventive cardiology. Since joining TVHS in 1982, he has practiced in the Outpatient Cardiology Clinic and supervises house staff for the inpatient Medical Service. His research has focused on hypertension and has been conducted in collaboration with Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Current Role & Responsibilities

As Chief of Staff, Dr. Nadeau oversees the coordination of clinical, research, and administrative functions across TVHS. He works closely with department leaders and staff to improve patient care, foster medical innovation, and support the needs of veterans across the region.
