About

Dr. Park is a physician-scientist and internationally recognized leader in breast cancer research and precision oncology. Currently the Benjamin F. Byrd, Jr. Professor in Oncology and Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, he also serves as Director of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. His research focuses on identifying and validating genetic targets for breast cancer therapy and diagnostics, with a particular emphasis on the use of liquid biopsies to guide cancer treatment.

Leadership Experience & Service

Dr. Park has served as Director of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center since 2022 and was previously Director of the Division of Hematology and Oncology. Since joining Vanderbilt in 2018, he has also led the Breast Cancer Research Program, Precision Oncology initiatives, and Translational Research efforts. Before Vanderbilt, he was Professor of Oncology at Johns Hopkins, Associate Director of Education and Research Training at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Associate Dean of Postdoctoral Affairs. Nationally and internationally, he serves as Chief Medical Officer for the Global Cancer Institute, a Komen Scholar, a member of the Komen and Breast Cancer Research Foundation scientific advisory boards, Co-Director of the Breast Cancer SPORE program at Vanderbilt, and a member of the NCI Breast Steering Committee.

Professional Focus & Achievements

Dr. Park is a pioneer in precision oncology and breast cancer research. His work has led to the development and implementation of liquid biopsy technologies that help guide treatment strategies for patients with breast cancer. He also spearheaded the creation of molecular tumor boards at Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt, and institutions worldwide, advancing the integration of genomic insights into patient care. Through his leadership, Dr. Park has strengthened collaborations regionally, nationally, and internationally to accelerate progress in cancer research.

Current Role & Responsibilities

As Director of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Dr. Park oversees research, clinical care, and translational initiatives aimed at advancing cancer treatment. He also serves as Benjamin F. Byrd, Jr. Professor in Oncology and Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In addition to his leadership responsibilities, he continues his active research program and contributes to national and international efforts shaping the future of breast cancer care.
